Two Wah Ching members arrested after investigators uncover guns, cash and 5000 ...

A traffic stop in Temple City this week led to the arrest of two Wah Ching gang members and the discovery of about 5,000 Ecstasy pills, weaponry, body armor and several thousand dollars in cash, authorities said Friday.

The arrest marks the second big Ecstasy bust in the area in a month and is another indication that demand for the drug is "higher than ever," according to a sergeant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

On Wednesday at about 5p.m., sheriff's department Asian gang investigators stopped a car for minor traffic violations in a parking lot at Rosemead Boulevard and Longden Avenue in Temple City, according to a statement from department officials.

The driver, Jimmy Chau, 22, of San Gabriel, appeared nervous and "displayed some unusual behaviors" during the stop, prompting the investigators to search the car, according to the statement.

During the search, they discovered about 2,000 pills of Ecstasy. Chau was subsequently arrested on suspicion of narcotics trafficking.

Further investigation led them to a home in the 9000 block of Longden Avenue in Temple City.

After obtaining a warrant, investigators searched the home and found an additional 3,000 Ecstasy pills. They also found a handgun, a shotgun, a bullet-proof vest, a small amount of methamphetamine, several pieces of an assault rifle, bullets, gang paraphernalia, and several thousand dollars in cash.

Sgt. Steve Kim of the sheriff's department's Asian Gang Team said the Ecstasy had an estimated street value of about $125,000 dollars.

"We've had more, but it's a good amount," he said.

Andy Lin, 30, of Temple City, whose father owned the Longden Avenue home, was arrested on suspicion of narcotics trafficking and possession of weapons during the commission of a crime.

Kim declined to say why investigators were following Chau's car before the stop, whether they were acting on a tip, or if Chau was already the target of an investigation at the time.

Kim said both men have been members of Wah Ching for several years, but said it didn't appear that either held a leadership position in the gang.

"They're fairly old, so I'd say they've been around for a little bit," he said.

Lin and Chau were booked at the sheriff's Temple station. Lin was released on $100,000 bail on Thursday. Chau was released on $30,000 bail the same day.

Kim said Asian gangs such as Wah Ching have largely dominated the Ecstasy trade in Southern California.

But you should expect to be flexible in the quantities since some are out, and others are not available in certain weights -since I was last there. It is in a seedy industrial complex with several big ugly dogs, that could easily eat small children. When I first went over to their place back in 2003 in El Monte, it was a small operation, but they were churning out lots of bullets. If I remember correctly, they were running about a dozen or so machines all pumping out bullets. And they were doing very good as far as sales. I can't imagine that they're having problems finding buyers. If anything, they probably have problems keeping up with demand now.
