Claire Sweeney makes show her own

BEFORE seeing Claire Sweeney's one-woman performance in musical TELL ME ON A SUNDAY, you might think the show had had its day since its 1979 debut.

But the tale of one woman's journey to America in search of love proves that Andrew Lloyd Webber's music and Don "Born Free" Black's lyrics stand the test of time.

Everything changes and nothing's changed when love's disappointments and highs are concerned.

And with Sweeney adding a Liverpool twist to the character of "The Girl", she quickly wins your heart.

Tell Me On A Sunday and Take That Look Off Your Face are the hit numbers most would know from the show.

But with some great performances from the five musicians playing live with Sweeney, the music played as big a part as Sweeney's just sometimes edging sharp, but strong, sweet voice.

Following names such as Marti Webb, Lulu, Sarah Brightman and Denise Van Outen, Sweeney has some big shoes to fill but makes the show her own.

The set with its skyscraper nightscape and perching of the musicians in a box above the stage where the action happened, added a sophisticated touch.

It's a great show, any day of the week.

@letrung1912 Webber gave up the rights to film of the MC/SB production when he donated it to some elitist repository in NYC. Only potential Phantoms and grad students can see it. I suspect it was part of the fall-out of his divorce from SB so her performance would be lost to history. There were more clips on YT but mean spirited Butler fans were incensed at the negative comments in comparison and them taken down yet the dozens of GB POTO vids aren’t touched. Go figure.

I downloaded this video for MC cause it is the only part in that version I can listen to.. The other ones are not good enough like this one..GB he was amazing in the whole film he dose not make me feel bored at any moment of the soundtrack ..finally I want to say gerard did well in all the movie in act and sing there is no place for michael and sarah in the existence of gerard and emmy but I do not deny that this video fof MC singing solo without sarah of course is amazing ..

Take note that many of these GB haters most likely have no problem with Ke$ha or Lady Gaga. Amazing how elitist people get over original works. I’m not saying that Gerard was as good as Crawford but that’s a given considering he didn’t work on Phantom for years and years. I think he also shows how far passion can go versus raw talent.
