Free grant writing workshop offered for nonprofit organizations
SAN DIEGO -- As funding sources for nonprofit organizations become harder and harder to come by, learning the art of creating a winning grant proposal is more important than ever.
As a service to nonprofit organizations and those working in the sector, the San Diego chapter of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) and the UCSD Extension will present a free "Emerging Leaders Bootcamp Session on Grant Writing" on Tuesday, June 21.
The one-hour long workshop, which will be held at the UCSD Extension in La Jolla, will be facilitated by journalist and grant/development writer Mary Curran-Downey.
In the workshop, participants will learn about the tools they need to become a successful grant writer and explore fundamentals of writing a good grant proposal. Curran-Downey will also share some myths that many people have about writing grants; explain how to avoid common mistakes; and learn how to craft a successful needs statement, which is said to be a vital component of a grant proposal.
Participants will also get to practice their newly learned skills through a short writing exercise with peer review.
Workshop organizers noted that the workshop session is geared towards those who are new to grant writing, as well as those looking to improve their writing skills.
The session will run from 8-9 am, with a contnental breakfast provided at 7:30 am.
