Sanderson, who will turn 32 on June 20, stopped competing soon after earning the Olympic gold medal in Athens, Greece in 2004. He compiled 159 straight wins at Iowa State and remains the only undefeated, four-time national champion (1999 – 2002).

Community notes: Athens Radio Club offers testing sessions ...
The Athens Radio Club, an Amateur Radio group, offers regular volunteer examiner testing sessions for those who are interested in becoming licensed amateur radio operators. The tests are administered at the ACC Fire Station No. 8 at 3955 Jefferson Road the first Tuesday of every other month at 6:30 p.m.
The current testing fee is $14. Drop-in examinees are welcome. For more information, contact Edwin Fuqua, call-sign N4VHA, at (706) 540-1088.
Volunteers wanted for research study
University of Georgia department of kinesiology is recruiting volunteers to participate in a research study. The purpose of the study is to test whether electrical-stimulation exercise therapy reduces the risk of diabetes in paralyzed individuals. Participants in the study will have an oral glucose tolerance test, MRI tests, DEXA exams, plus tests of circulation.
Participants will also need to be taught to stimulate their leg muscles using an electrical stimulation unit. Volunteers must have complete paralysis (either paraplegic or tetraplegic) and be between 18 and 39 years of age. Volunteers will need to either be diabetic or pre-diabetic. Art in the Air contest looking for entries
Athens-based artists are invited to create a masterpiece to hang above the highways of Athens-Clarke County. Art in the Air is a contest to celebrate and display the work of local artists on billboards in Athens. Winning entries will appear on billboards in and around Athens-Clarke County beginning in January. All entries must be received no later than 5 p.m. Nov. 25.

Human Relations Council accepting applications
The Athens Area Human Relations Council is now accepting applications for its annual scholarships and community service awards. Physical copies may be picked up at the Clarke, Madison and Oglethorpe county libraries and in the counselor's office of each local high school. All applications must be postmarked by Nov. 1.
