State Police will be asked to handle Tullos investigation

LaSalle Parish prosecutor Reed Walters, was on hand at the meeting in July in the city of Tullos Council, held Monday of last week for an executive session with Mayor Newsom Charles and members of the council.

When the session was resumed, Walters said during the meeting, the Mayor, the Council and he had discussed the direction of potential litigation in the city may elect, but no action was taken.

Board member Larry Powell made a motion to go in the direction of the state police conducting the investigation in connection with the audit findings recently in the city. The motion was voted and passed unanimously. Walters said he would take care of their decision immediately and hopes the issue will be put to rest soon.

Another issue addressed at the meeting and raised by Powell was the possible loss of highway contract mowing of the town across the state. The city is contracted to mow 9.86 miles of road for $ 11 000 per year.

"I discovered that we are close to losing (the contract)," Powell said. "It is due to our equipment and the state suggested that we buy an upgrade of the tractor to keep the contract .”

Powell stressed that the town does not need to lose the contract and that if they do, they will not likely get it back. He supported the state’s recommendation to acquire an upgrade. Powell said the tractor option for purchase is a 4-wheel drive diesel with an enclosed cab and air-conditioning.

“The new tractor would take two and a half time less man power then our current tractor,” Powell said. “The costs for the tractor and backhoe is $45-48,000. We would use the contract money to pay on it until it could be paid off in about five years.”

Powell also said the town could utilize the new tractor for bush hog jobs around town for extra money as well as for general town upkeep. The old tractor would be auctioned off for additional money too. He said it would greatly help the town to keep the contract and that staying with the current tractor will not allow the town to do so.

The Council agreed that the tractor purchase would be beneficial for the town and to keep the contract, but no action was taken until more information can be gathered and discussed.

Following the report of the police department, which consisted of 27 complaints answered four calls made from public assistance, 16 citations written, three traffic accidents worked and three arrests for the month of June, Chief of Police Leland Guin made a request to the Council. The request was to hire part-time help police patrol.

Hydrant Inspection Database Help

I'm trying to figure out how to setup a fire hydrant inspection/maintenance database and was hoping I could get some help with the design. Basically what I have is a list of hydrants exported from our GIS database (less than 1500). Then I have an inspection form with about 30 fields that are done on every hydrant. Each hydrant is already given a unique asset-id number from the GIS database and is what we use for our inspection form to ID each hydrant. You would want a separate primary key (autonumber would work fine as a data type for this table) that will store the hydrant ID and all the inspection information for a particular maintenance review (your 30 pieces of data). If you do your 'additional inspections' and they also have the same pieces of data you can store them on this table as well, if the additional inspections are a different data set you will want a third table that stores the additional inspection information.
