HUD applications halted
GIRARD -- The Southeast Kansas Community Action Program announced Thursday that they are temporarily stopping the application process for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Housing Choice Voucher Program that they administer. The waiting list is closed effective Aug. 12. No applications will be accepted after that date until further notice.SEK-CAP now serves over 390 families through the HUD Program. SEK-CAP has reached its capacity provided by HUD and is unable to respond to the additional demands.
There are more than 440 families on the waiting list at this time.There was also a recent 33 percent reduction in program funding.
SEK-CAP will no longer accept applications because the waiting period is expected to extend beyond one year. Another news release will be issued to inform the public when the application process and the waiting list is reopened.
HUD rental assistance is one of many housing services SEK-CAP provides. Other programs administered include assistance and tenant-based rental assistance Weatherization. SEK-CAP also owns and rents 54 homes across southern Kansas.

August 15 to 19, CMHA conducts its regular lottery to identify individuals / families will be allowed to apply for its good choice of housing (section 8 aka Good) Program. Registration for the lottery will be accepted online only. 10,000 persons / families will be selected from the lottery.
Please note the following:
There is a Web site dedicated waiting list lottery applycuyahogacounty.tenmast.com, and waiting list lottery Call Center, 800-223-4969, separate from the ACSM.
The website of the lottery waiting list and call center will be launched on 1st August 2011 at 8 am EDT.They will not be available before that date. August 1, they will be available to provide information and answer questions about the lottery.
Online registration for the lottery waiting list may be submitted as of Monday, August 15, 2011, at 8 pm EDT. Entries will be accepted around the clock Friday, August 19, 2011, at 23:59 EDT. Entries will be accepted online, no paper registration will be available.
Seniors and people with disabilities can get help with submitting an online entry by calling the call center waiting list lottery at 800-223-4969. The call center will be open from 8 a.m. through 8 p.m. EDT.
Entry into the lottery and placement on the waiting list do not guarantee the future award of a voucher. Those who are placed on the waiting list will be determined eligible for the Voucher Program when their names reach the top of the waiting list.
