Of Dirty Water Charters out of Key Largo reported that fishing in Florida Bay and around the backwaters of Key Largo continues to produce steady catches of jack crevalle up to 15 pounds, redfish, a few snook, lots of sea trout, mangrove snapper, groupers and tarpon in the 10- to 80-pound range. … During the Drambuie Key West Marlin Tournament, anglers released three out of four snook that ate their live pinfish and hooked more than six free-floating tripletail on live pinfish while being fished under a Cajun Thunder float. They lost a 10-pound fish after a long run and also landed six mangrove snapper that were caught on a Hookup lure tipped with a Gulp shrimp and released sea trout, jacks, ladyfish and catfish.

of Fishing Southwest Florida Charters out of St. James City reported redfish have been the most consistent bite this week and can be found on the flats and under the bushes on high tide, where cut bait, live shiners and shrimp have been the top baits. Snook have been in the same areas, and on the points and in the passes, large sea trout have been schooling in the three- to five-foot grass flats.

Lionfish derbies are fishing competitions where teams work to collect as many lionfish as they can within a dawn-to-dusk period using a variety of capture methods while SCUBA diving, free diving or snorkeling. Removing lionfish from the reef is beneficial as it allows native species to grow unmolested and restores balance to the delicate coral ecosystem found in our coastal waters.

*Captain’s Meeting is mandatory for the team captain and all team members are encouraged to attend.  There will be a briefing on safe collection and handling procedures for lionfish. Each member of the team must fill out a liability waiver, found HERE , and submit it before or at the captain’s meeting.
